Prof. P. Prakash Babu

Prof. P. Prakash Babu is the Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University. A distinguished academic, researcher and institutional leader, he brings extensive experience in higher education, scientific research and academic administration.

Prior to assuming the Vice-Chancellorship of Pondicherry University, he served as Vice-Chancellor, Yogi Vemana University, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, University of Hyderabad and Senior Professor in the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad. His research contributions are primarily in neuroscience and neurodegenerative diseases, with wider work on neurodegenerative diseases and brain tumours. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, UK, and has held leadership and professional responsibilities in national and international scientific organisations.

As Vice-Chancellor, he emphasises innovation, interdisciplinary research, industry collaboration, entrepreneurship and community engagement. His vision for ACIC-PUSH is to connect academic knowledge with real-world and grassroots challenges, positioning Pondicherry University as a living laboratory for innovation, where students, researchers, startups, industry and communities collaboratively identify challenges, co-create solutions, and translate knowledge into sustainable, scalable and socially impactful innovations.
