How the Centre came about
Set up in Pondicherry University, incorporated to act
Atal Community Innovation Centre – Pondicherry University Step-up Hub (ACIC-PUSH) has been set up in Pondicherry University with the approval of the Executive Council of the Pondicherry University to cater to the needs of the students, scholars, faculty, alumni and other associates for entrepreneurial activities using the core strength of Pondicherry University under the aegis of the Start-up India programme of the Government of India.
Accordingly, ACIC-PUSH is a registered Not-for-Profit Section 8 Company to accelerate business incubation activity and strategic alliances in various fields at Pondicherry University. It facilitates and bootstraps novel ideas and research innovations of young minds, helping translate intellectual property and products or processes into socially relevant and viable business ventures.

ACIC under Atal Innovation Mission
Built for the ecosystems that existing incubation does not reach
The Atal Community Innovation Centre programme of the Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, is directed at innovation and entrepreneurship in unserved and underserved ecosystems.
Its emphasis is on reaching innovators who are not served by existing incubation infrastructure, reducing the distance between laboratory and field, creating space for pre-incubation, and encouraging frugal, solution-driven design thinking.
ACIC-PUSH is being built to that brief: community first, prototype early, and measure what actually changes.

A separate legal entity, incorporated to run the Centre
ACIC-PUSH is a registered not-for-profit Section 8 company, established to accelerate business incubation activity and strategic alliances at Pondicherry University.
A Section 8 company applies its income to its objects rather than distributing profit. That form is what allows the Centre to hold grants, enter partnerships and run programmes in its own name while remaining not-for-profit.

Sustainability
Government support is a catalyst for ecosystem creation rather than a permanent operating subsidy. Long-term sustainability will be developed through institutional support, industry and CSR partnerships, sponsored programmes, permissible knowledge and training activities, ecosystem linkages and responsible incubation services — in each case consistent with the Section 8 objects of the company and applicable rules.
